Fred Jones Art and Poetry Donation to Illinois State Library

Inside the Illinois State Library (ISL) is Portrait of Illinois, a permanent collection of thirty-three works of art — painting, prints, drawings and photography by contemporary Illinois artists.  The artworks were selected through a combination of limited invitations and open competitions held prior to the opening of the Illinois State Library Building (later renamed the Gwendolyn Brooks Building) opened in 1990. More than 1,700 works of art were submitted and pared down to the thirty-three works permanently on display.

One of the works on permanent display is by Fred Jones of Macomb in far western Illinois and can be viewed here. This week Jones visited the ISL to present two portfolios for the collection.

ISL Communications Manager Patrick McGuckin wrote, “His gift includes signed prints and poems by artists and poets from across Illinois. We thank Mr. Jones for his kindness and generosity in donating the portfolios to us.”
