Fraternity sex change: College has profound belief

A fraternity member of Emerson College in Boston will have a sex change, thanks to the support of his brothers of the Phi Alpha Tau Chapter. According to a Feb. 28 CNN report, the fraternity brothers wanted to help Donnie Collins get the sex change he wanted by campaigning a fundraiser on Indiegogo.com.

The sophomore student's sex change will actually be a procedure to surgically removes breast tissue and flatten his chest. Since insurance wouldn't cover the $8,100 operation, Collins' fraternity brothers jumped in to help.

"We see Donnie as a brother and we want to support him in this endeavor," Phi Alpha Tau Chapter President Jon Allen said.

"We are here less to raise money, and more to tell a story ... of transformation, and a story of self-discovery, and the story of brotherhood," the online appeal read.

Money collected from the fundraiser got an overwhelming amount of $16,000. Funds left over from the goal of $8,100 will be donated to the Jim Collins Foundation -- a group that helps "fund gender-confirming surgeries for transgender people."

Emerson College is an institution that openly accepts LGBT students.
