Pope Francis has received accolades for his liberal views on homosexuality, but Franklin Graham, son of Rev. Billy Graham, is at odds with the pontiff on the issue. According to a Dec. 29 article on Politico, the younger Graham reacted to Pope Francis' statement that he had no right to judge homosexuals because God was the judge. Rev. Graham agreed that the pope was not the judge, but he stressed that God is the judge and has declared homosexuality to be a sin in the Bible. He explained that God does not change.
The pope has made several statements since he took the helm of the Catholic Church that have differed greatly from the doctrine and policies of his predecessors and the historic Catholic Church. He had stated that a belief in Jesus Christ was not necessarily a requirement for entrance into heaven. He also has been seen as aligning himself with the economic policies and agendas of South American countries who promote a left-leaning social justice and liberation theology, much to the dismay of many American Catholics.
