Frankie Dettori to mount Excellent Guest

Jockey Frankie Dettori will mount Excellent Guest on behalf of George Margarson in the Summer Double International Stakes at Ascot on Saturday. Racing tipsters and punters will note that Excellent Guest has had a solid run since last year, having placed second in the Buckingham Palace Stakes and the Bunbury Cup in 2011. The racehorse also came in as a runner-up in the Royal Hunt Cup earlier this year.

“He was due to run last week in the Bunbury Cup and it broke my heart having to take him out, especially as I used to train the winner (Bonnie Brae),” Margarson told betfair which sponsors Saturday’s meeting at Ascot. “His main objective is at Goodwood and given that we've got two weeks nearly to get him ready for that after this, it wasn't a difficult decision to take him out. If he wins he'll get a 3lb penalty and he could cope with that.”

In other news, Colour Vision will compete in the Goodwood Cup on August 2. Godolphin's Royal Ascot winner is trained by Mark Johnston came in third in the Cesarewitch Handicap as well as the Long Distance Cup at Ascot on Champions' Day. The three-year-old is in the care of Saeed Bin Suroor and boasted an impressive Timeform 125 rated performance to win the Sagaro Stakes at Kempton.
