We all know that your dog is truly a member of your family but is he/she a champion? Well, here's your opportunity to find out and at the same time experience a a fun filled, family-friendly Memorial Day weekend getaway when you attend Frankenmuth, Michigan's annual Dog Bowl event on Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25. It is approximately a 4 hour hour drive from Cleveland to Frankenmuth.

Dog Bowl Taking place at Frankenmuth's River Place and offering a "tail-wagging" good time for all members of your family, Dog Bowl features 21 fun dog events and 18 events where your dog can join in that showcase dogs jumping, running, retrieving and even diving. In addition, visitors will get the chance to see 30 hot air balloons, six balloon flights and three evening Balloon Glow events.

Among the events at Frankenmuth's Dog Bowl are Wiener Dog Races, a DockDogs competition, Best Canine Costume contest, a 50 yard Doggie Fun Run, a Barking Babes Fashion Show, Disc Dog competitions, a Doggie Dash De Lure Course & Competition, a Silly Pet Tricks & Talking/Howling competition and a Dog Breeds of the World Show.

Other highlights at Dog Bowl include a Pet Parade (over 500 dogs are expected to participate) on Saturday, May 24 at 1 p.m., a Border Collie Sheep Herding demonstration (at noon and 4 p.m. both days), Agility Demonstrations & Competitions (10 a.m. and 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday) and appearances by the Rock-N-Roll K-9's Performance Team which will feature flyball, tricks, choreographed obedience routines, relay racing and limbo by dogs of all sizes, shapes and ages set to rock music.

Be sure not to miss the annual Canine Cruise on the Cass River aboard the Bavarian Belle River Boat. Yes, you can take your pets aboard the boat. The cruise takes place on Saturday at 10 a.m. and is open to the first 75 guests and their dogs. The fee is $3 per person. The cruise is free for all dogs.

The 2014 Dog Bowl King and Queen Award will be bestowed on the winners on Saturday at 1:45 p.m.

Several concession stands at Dog Bowl will be selling items like hot dogs, brats, chicken tenders, pretzels, French fries and a variety of non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. Other dining options include La Crepe du Jour Creperie and Cafe at River Place (offering crepes, made-to-order salads, beverage and gourmet coffee drinks), and The Bavarian Inn Restautant's outdoor Fischer Platz Biergarten (next to the Dog Bowl event) offering sandwiches, brats and the Bavarian Inn's world famous chicken dinners.

Salads, sandwiches and a variety of American and German entrees are also available for purchase at the Bavarian Inn Lodge's Schnitzelbank Biergarten also located next to the Dog Bowl event.
