'Frankenfood' discovers the ‘City of Culinary Love’ on Spike

On tonight’s second episode of “Frankenfood” titled, “City of Culinary Love,” hear the introduction give the description of “Frankenfood,” as a mash up of original and unexpected food combinations and ingredients, resulting in delicious dishes … or awful misses.

Affable chef Josh Capon is in Philadelphia with the sandwich king, Tony Luke Jr., where hundreds of cooks have come out to the Molly Malloy’s, where they are hoping to create the next food craze and win $10,000.

As each contestant will offer their food creation to Josh, Tony and guest judge Bobby Fisher, head chef of Molly Malloy’s at the Reading Terminal. The final two will be served at Molly Malloy’s where the public will decide the winner. The winning food will be featured on their menu for all to try.

The first entry was from Ivan Baldwin, a barber, who brought his Cheesy Nut Sack for them to try. He said it was created by accident, but turned out well. It contained; macaroni, peanut butter sauce, mozzarella, garlic jelly and nutter butter cookies on the bottom. Unfortunately, the garlic jelly overpowered all the other ingredients, so it was a no for this entry.

Mike & Katie Meyer, family business owners brought the next dish, The Philadelphia Stuffed Explosion. It was a cheeseburger, egg and mac & cheese stuffed inside a pretzel. They got two yes votes to go on in the competition.

Bakery manager, Chad Gillespie was next with the South Philly Whack Attack. It contained; pretzels, potato chips, chocolate chips, cream cheese, peanut butter, extra sharp cheese, cinnamon and crushed peanuts for a huge Franken-Fail.

Entrepreneur Glenn Gross was next with Glenbo’s Ribcage, containing; funnel cake, cinnamon spiced apples, fried ribs, cheddar cheese, bacon, fried pickles, eggs, barbeque sauce and fried Oreos for a Franken-Disaster.

Business owner Ralph Mazzocchi was the next to display his creation, Lobster Mac & Cheese consisting of; lobster, mac & cheese, Cheetos, white chocolate, white wine, tomatoes and Irish whiskey. Although Ralph’s demeanor was more like Grumpy Cat, he was sent to the next round with three resounding yes votes.

Corey Johnson, a restaurant worker, presented his Finger Licking Chocolate Chicken on a honey bun, but it was too much like chicken & waffles, so it was a no.

Stay-at-home-mom Jackie Howard presented The Cookie Monster’s Breakfast. It consisted of; oatmeal raisin cookies, bacon, sausage, eggs, and whipped cream with maple syrup, served with strawberries, she moved to the next round easily.

Restaurant worker, Kim Malcolm presented The Mouthful. The patty was made of bacon, bourbon and ice cream and the bun was a deep-fried Kit-Kat Bar crusted in kettle-cooked potato chips. She will move to the next round.

With four choices, the judges had to choose the top two for the restaurant competition, and the winners were Ralph Mazzocchi with the lobster mac & cheese and Kim Malcolm with The Mouthful.

Next, the winners met with the chefs to tweak their recipes. Josh suggested less alcohol and bananas on the sandwich, which Tony assisted Ralph with the presentation of the mac & cheese. The customers were anxious to taste the two new Frankenfood creations.

When the votes were tallied, the winner was Ralph Mazzocchi with the Lobster Mac & Cheese, the “Frankenfood” $10,000 winner whose food item will appear on Molly Malloy’s menu in Philly.
