Thomas, the 19-year MLB veteran, spent two seasons with the Oakland Athletics. Better known for his 16 seasons with the Chicago White Sox, the two-time AL MVP (1993, 1994) credits his years with Oakland as a significant time in his career that added to his being elected into the Hall of Fame.

"The year I really got me in the Hall of Fame today was 2006. I was counted out by a lot of people," Thomas told reporters. "For me to go out there and have another MVP (type) season, it was an incredible feeling for everybody and I enjoyed playing out there for the A’s."

He added the importance of the Oakland fans and the way they "rejuvenated" him. Many of those fans took to twitter to express how 2006 was a year that still remains one of the best years for A's fans.

In his career, Thomas put together a .301 BA with 521 home runs, 2,468 hits, and a .974 OPS. During his time with the A's, the designated hitter/first baseman hit .268 with 44 home runs and a .876 OPS.

Following the announcement, the A's released the following statement:

“We congratulate Frank on joining the immortals of baseball. While he spent only two seasons with our organization, we had the distinct privilege to experience his greatness as a player and as a person. Beyond his special talents, Frank Thomas was the consummate professional who respected the game, his teammates and his opponents, and he exhibited the kind of class every player should aspire to. He is richly deserving of this honor.”
