According to the Los Angeles Times on Feb. 2, singer Frank Ocean now says he won’t pursue criminal charges against singer Chris Brown who allegedly punched him in a fight at a recording studio. This is a reversal of Ocean’s earlier comments.
Frank Ocean has the following statement on his web site.
"As a child I thought if someone jumped me it would result in me murdering or mutilating a man," Ocean wrote in a brief post on his Tumblr page. "But as a man I am not a killer. I'm an artist and a modern person. I'll choose sanity. No criminal charges. No civil lawsuit. Forgiveness, albeit difficult, is wisdom. Peace, albeit trite, is what I want in my short life. Peace."
The two singers got into it last Sunday at Westlake Recording Studios, apparently over a parking space. The two-man fight escalated into a six-man free-for-all, according to witnesses, with Chris Brown throwing a punch. That evening, Frank Ocean tweeted, “got jumped by chris and a couple guys….”
The following day, a spokesman for the Sherriff’s Department said that Chris Brown had been named as a suspect in the battery case and that Frank Ocean was “desirous of prosecution.” This latest post is a 180-degree turnaround, a real change of heart.
Ironically, both Frank Ocean and Chris Brown are nominated for Grammy awards for best new artist and album of the year at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards to air on Feb. 10. Hopefully, if one of them wins, the other one will congratulate the winner as a friend.
