CEO Challenges®, the world leader in sport competitions designed specifically for CEOs and business owners, this week, announced Frank Karbe, CFO of San Francisco biotechnology company Exelixis, as the 2013 World’s Fittest CEO®.
Karbe demonstrated his incredible level of fitness at the CEO Endurance World Championship, produced and presented by Life Time – The Healthy Way of Life Company, held at Blackberry Farm, Tenn. September 6-9. As a result of his win Karbe donated $12,000 to The Olympic Club Foundation charity.
- The CEO Endurance World Championship is an annual event that gathers some of the world’s fittest business owners, CEOs and C-level executives to the Great Smoky Mountains of Tenn. to see who can out-run, out-bike, out-swim and out-smart the rest of the field to win.
- The competition includes six different ‘mini competitions’ over three days and points are awarded for each competition. The CEO with the most points after the sixth event wins.
Karbe proved the strongest after he won two of the stages (Team Obstacle and Open Water Swim) and placed second or third in the other stages. Shawn Talbott, CSO of Utah’s MonaVie, placed second in the competition and last year’s champion, Dan King of ReadyTalk, beat Doron Reuveni of uTest by only one point to take third place and first in the over 50 division.
“Over the last year, I have had a hectic schedule including balancing work and two young kids,” said Karbe, 2013 World’s Fittest CEO. “Preparing for this year’s competition was a challenge but it’s those victories that don’t come easy that are always the best. I’m honored to take home the title of 2013 World’s Fittest CEO.”
The entire weekend was filmed and is being edited for a nationally syndicated TV show – The Fittest CEO® – that will air on CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX and other networks across the USA beginning in November 2013.
The third annual CEO Endurance Championship is planned for Blackberry Farm September 18-21, 2014. The 2014 competition will include a number of new events that will challenge the fitness, coordination, and mental acuity of the CEO competitors.
