Frank Darabont to rewrite 'Godzilla' reboot (Video)

The new Godzilla film is scheduled for theatrical release in 2014, but the script isn't finished yet. Deadline reported on Monday, Jan. 7 that Frank Darabont, former showrunner for the AMC zombie television drama The Walking Dead was tasked to draft a final version of the script. The news comes just two months after the announcement that Iron Man 3 screenwriter Drew Pearce joined the project for a script rewrite.

Darabont is no stranger to writing screenplays, and has previously completed scripts for The Green Mile (1999), The Mist (2007) and the remake of The Blob (1988). Gareth Edwards has been tapped to direct the action thriller, which is believed to focus on the origin of the famous creature, and filming is set to begin this March.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have also teamed up to bring Godzilla back to the big screen for the first time since Roland Emmerich's Godzilla (1998). The legendary monster will be stomping into 2D and 3D theaters on May 16, 2014.
