Theology on Tap is a monthly series of talks given by well know Catholic clergy on topics of faith. On Monday, October 20, Father Andrew Apostoli, CFR,well known author and TV series host on EWTN, , spoke about the Holy Spirit; Forgotten Member of the Trinity. The event was held in a bar called, simply "Bar" on Crown Street next to Yale University. The bar was full with the usual crowd, and a large back room with a vaulted ceiling and tower of lights was a fitting backdrop for Father's talk.
Father Apostoli said that the Holy Spirit is the invisible member of the Trinity but that He can be known by His works in us. Our souls are a canvas on which He paints a portrait of Jesus.
Father said that the fall foliage is beautiful, but there is an irony; the leaves are their most spectacular at the time they are dying. So are we, he explained, we show Christ's work in us as most beautifully as we are dying. He spoke about a young sister who was dying, and whose mother was at her deathbed as she said, "He is here, Jesus is here!". Then she was gone. Like a brilliant crimson on a sugar maple, caught by the autumn sun, stunning, but fleeting beauty which serves to remind us of the heavenly banquet to come.
After the talk, many of the 40 young adults present asked questions about the spiritual life while confessions were heard. Father recommended praying the rosary daily as a weapon against the devil, and to be persisitent in prayer if we are seeking guidance from our Lord for our lives.
Fr Andrew was surrounded by young men eager to hear more, as he slowly walked out of the back room of Bar. Attendees bought his books and DVDs and stayed to socialize, drinking beer and eating pizza.
