Fox News sees its lowest ratings in cable television since 2001

January ratings for cable news show Fox News got its worst prime time ratings among 25-54 year olds since 2001, and its lowest total daytime ratings in five years, news sources said Tuesday.

MSNBC ranked #2 in Total Day (Monday through Sunday) for the month with 491,000 total viewers and 160,000 for adults aged 25-54. MSNBC grew in audience, while the other three cable news nets combined were down, compared to Jan. 2012 demo ratings.

MSNBC is up 20% with adults, and 9% with total viewers. Fox News had the lowest total day delivery among adults, (209,000) since July 2008.

Fox News viewers tuned out as a whole from Democratic-themed events, causing the network's ratings to plunge during the Democratic National Convention, the hours immediately following Obama's re-election, and the president's inauguration. However, MSNBC benefited from the Democratic-friendly lineup, and drew in eager liberal viewers.

January was also the worst month ever for FNC’s On the Record w/ Greta Van Susteren in the 25-54 demo. It was also Fox's lowest total at 10 pm since July '08.

The O-Reilly Factor, however, was the top news show of January 2013, coming in at 2.7 million total viewers. The Five, Special Report with Bret Baier, and Hannity all followed in closely.
