Bed jumping is the latest Internet craze that has gone main stream, according to a report from Fox News released Saturday. People photograph themselves suspended in a mid-jump over a bed, to make it appear that they are suspended in mid-air (most photos are taken at hotels).
A website HotelsByCity.com started the craze with its Bed Jump blog and they have received several hundred entries so far. Flickr has over 17,000 pictures that come up under a bed jumping search. And just in case your wondering, hotels encourage bed jumping.
Earlier this year, the InterContinental Hotel chain joined in on the fun in an effort to create the world's biggest bed jump. They gathered 20,000 people worldwide to bounce on one of four of the largest beds in the world, which were strategically located in Shanghai, Paris, London and New York.
In order to obtain the perfect photo, bed jumpers must carefully position the camera, adjust the time and make sure they jump at the exact right time. The faces of some of the jumpers are hilarious, some look scared, while other excited, and some have a blank look as if to say…why am I doing this again?
"There is something completely intoxicating about today’s hotel bed," stated someone on the Bed Jump blog.
"Don’t deny yourself the indulgent luxury of taking a running start and launching up over that mattress and box-spring that will surely bounce you up into the stratosphere. Hotel Bed Jumping. It’s naughty, it’s fun, it’s free."
The internet buzz on this story is hot because Fox News reported on it Saturday, many people who haven’t heard of bed jumping want to know what it is. To see more photos of bed jumpers, click on the Bed Jump.com link below.
