The distaste for Fox News reached a new high on Friday when President Obama’s Press Secretary, Jay Carney ignored questions by Ed Henry of Fox News not once but twice and Henry decided he had enough and walked out of the briefing, NewsBusters reported.
At the press briefing (video), Carney allowed every other TV reporter ask questions but when Ed Henry began to ask his question, all he got out was “Jay…” before Carney called on The Chicago Tribune‘s Christi Parsons.
After a second time when Henry tried to ask a question, he got up, smiled, and walked out.
The latest distaste by the White House of Fox News most likely had to do with Henry’s reporting on Wednesday when Ed Henry reported that the aides in the Obama administration have been aware, for a few days, that the government would not be able to pay death benefits to fallen troops' families, as reported on Fox News.
At that Wednesday briefing, Jay Carney answering Henry’s questions stated that he did not know when President Obama learned that fallen troops would not receive death benefits due to the government shutdown.
Then the exchange between Henry and Carney went into over-drive.
At the Wednesday briefing (Video), Henry asked, “Jay, when did the President learn specifically that the military death benefits would not be paid?”
“Again, Ed, for the third time…,” Carney began and Henry said, “No, I didn’t hear that question.”
“Well, it was asked,” Carney said. “I can tell you that when he did learn, he asked…”
“Today?... Yesterday?” Henry continued to ask.
But when Henry kept pressing Carney, Carney got irritated and said, “And I mean, this is not that complicated. I know you’re trying to make a partisan issue out of it, but the…”
“I’m not trying to make a partisan…” Henry objected. “No, nice try.”
The history of the Obama administration hating Fox News has been documented since 2010.
In one instance, NewsMax reported on the history of the Obama administration hating Fox News in their print edition in 2010, presenting a story not reported elsewhere that President Obama was worried about his 2008 election and was angrily blaming Fox News.
In the print edition, the article stated, “He (Obama) agrees to a secret meeting at New York's posh Waldorf Astoria hotel with the head of Fox News, Roger Ailes and other top executives of their parent company, News Corp.”
However, the meeting quickly went bad as Obama furiously wagged his finger in anger at Fox News and their top conservative host, Sean Hannity.
As a result of Carney ignoring Henry, Brent Bozell, founder of Media Research Center (MRC) who also owns, NewsBusters said, “It's bad enough that Obama had his Attorney General probing James Rosen (of Fox News) like a criminal. Now his press secretary is treating Ed Henry like he's The Invisible Man. Obama is more open to negotiating with Iranians than dealing with Fox News.”
