Fox News: Media covering Malaysia airplane so they don't have to cover Benghazi

The mystery of the missing Malaysia airplane has grabbed the attention of many people around the world. While some may question the almost obsessive coverage of some networks, one right-wing talker thinks there is more behind the story.

On March 8th, 2014 just after 12:41am, Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 took off from Kuala Lumpur with 239 passengers and crew members on board. Among those on board were two Iranians travelling with stolen Austrian and Italian passports. Malaysian authorities lost contact with the plane just a few hours later and the airline has yet to be found. The United States joined the search five days later but their hasn't been much progress.

Since the disappearance of the plane, news outlets have been covering the whereabouts of the Malaysian airplane to varying degrees, with CNN leading the charge with almost 24/7 round-the-clock coverage. One network that has eased a bit on the coverage has been the conservative leaning Fox News, led by the host of the "O'Reilly Factor," Bill O'Reilly.

During an episode of "The O'Reilly Factor," Bill O'Reilly stated that the reason why main stream media is covering the missing Malaysia airplane was to distract the American people from more serious issues, like the tragedy and alleged "scandal" in Benghazi.

"We can expect to hear massive speculation about the debris until it's found. That's because the media is running wild with the airlines story as you know. And there is a big reason why -- money. The nation's newspapers are in dire trouble. They need bold headlines. The network news doesn't want to cover important stories like the IRS and Benghazi but they can cover the airliner without any political consequences. Cable news, which now dominates America's prime time media is in a brutal war for ratings. The Fox News Channel was the number one rated cable channel in the country last week. Not just news all cable channel, we beat everybody, the zombies, the thrones, you name it."

The missing airplane is a big story just like the attacks in Benghazi were. The issue with Benghazi is that the right-wing media turned a tragedy into a manufactured scandal in an attempt to pile on negativity to President Obama and smear former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton before a possible 2016 presidential run. Fox News and their hosts continue to deflect reality away from the American people, and in its place, replace that reality with their own narrative.
