Sunday, Howard Dean said that Fox News was irresponsible with Shirley Sherrod coverage, and downright racist. Dean, the former Democratic National Committee chairman said that Fox News had a right to thorough investigate the edited footage they used of Sherrod’s NAACP speech, when she stated that she refused to help a farmer because he was white.

"I don't think you're a racist," Dean said to Fox News host Chris Wallace, "but Fox News did something that was absolutely racist. They had an obligation to find out what was really in the clip. They had been pushing a theme of black racism with this phony Black Panther crap and this business and this Sotomayor and all this other stuff."

Wallace said that Fox News did not air any footage until Sherrod had been forced to resign by the USDA.

Sunday, Howard Kurtz, a Washington Post media critic said that the immediate Fox News coverage came from Bill O'Reilly during his Monday night show asking for Sherrod to be fired before her resignation was announced.

Monday, O'Reilly spoke about the 3-minute clip of the video and said that Sherrod’s comments were "simply unacceptable." "Ms. Sherrod must resign immediately."

Sherrod did resign just a few hours later. Later in the week, Sherrod said she was told she had to resign because USDA officials said they feared Fox News host Glenn Beck would speak about her comments on Monday night.

"It wasn't Fox News that cost Shirley Sherrod her job. It was the scary specter of Glenn Beck," Kurtz said.

After the full 47-minute video of what Shirley Sherrod actually said was released, the USDA made a public apology to Sherrod and offered her another job within the USDA, but she has yet to accept anything.

Bill O’Reilly has since made a public apology to Sherrod for his statements during his Monday night show.

"I owe Ms. Sherrod an apology for not doing my homework, for not putting her remarks into the proper context," said O'Reilly said.

    Wrong, Shirly Sherrod was fired sometime before 5pm. O'Reilly tapes his show at 5p & airs at 8 pm ET. The timeline: Breitbart puts out the video on his website, Fox News website posts the story, Sherrod is called (per her own words) & told that she needed to pull over & resign because Glenn Beck was going to air on his show that day a speech that she gave.

    The White House has a problem. Sherrod herself has said that the White House aided in her ouster & that it was over what Beck was going to air on his show. Problem is, is that Beck never aired her speech that day, but actually defended her firing later on.

    So the spin comes in from the media. The deflection from the media is now to what Fox News put on its website & O'Reilly. But Sherrod didn't say that either of them led to her ouster. She never mentioned Fox News website or O'Reilly being the cause of her ouster. She said that it was over what Beck was going to air, even though the Obama adm. has no idea what Beck will air.

    Continued...

    Now the NAACP and the Obama administration say that they were "snookered" by Fox News. But how can they be snookered by Fox News when the NAACP had the entire video of her speech at their disposal to look at?

    The end of the matter is this: The Obama administration and the NAACP wrongly threw Sherrod under the bus, and they want that story deflected to something else.

  • Just Saying 1 year ago

    Funny how, for how much they (the administration) says that Beck is irrelavant, they sure fear what he may say to the point were they would fire someone over it. I bet Beck gave himself a pat on the back after this confirmation.

    Let's not forget the highly edited and staged video episode that showed ACORN advising a pimp and prostitute how to set up a prostitution business. The video was proven to be a staged effort by professional liar, Andrew Breitbart (yes, one and the same) Nevertheless, the final affect was the total destruction of ACORN, the long-time national voter registration. organization.

    Now, while FOX and their stable of talking heads back-peddle their earlier claims, they are blaming President Obama for having Ms. Sherrod forced to resign... another big fat lie.

    The whole mess is sickening.

  • Lee 1 year ago

    Ray, have you ever heard of the internet? There's this whole division called FoxNews.com where the bogus Sherrod story appeared before she resigned.

  • Ray 1 year ago

    @Lee

    can you read?

    Apparently you missed the part about where I ALREADY PREVIOUSLY said (before you even posted) that Fox News posted the bogus story about her before she resigned.

    Problem is, is that the Fox Website posting of it is NOT the reason why the White House aided in her ouster. Sherrod's own words confirm this. She said that she was called, told to pull ovr and resign because Glenn Beck was going to raise the issue of her speech on his show that same day.

    Try as you may, but the internet contains Sherrod's words on this matter forever.

    No way for Breitbart, the NAACP, the Obama White House or shills for the Obama administration to worm their way out of her being thrown under the bus.

  • Ray 1 year ago

    @Lee

    You said the Fox and their stable of talking heads are blaming president Obama for forcing Ms. Sherrod to resign.

    No, Shirely Sherrod said that the White House was involved in her ouster, not Obama specifically, mind you, and it was all because of what Beck was supposedly going to air, period.

    Time for you to get your facts straight. Listen to what Shirley Sherrod herself said, and you will come to the truth - that she was unfairly thrown under the bus.

    It is a shame that the race industry is alive and thriving in this Obama age. It isn't enough that people looked past this guy's color and voted him in office. Those of us who didn't vote for him didn't consider his race on the radar for why we didn't vote for him. He is a radical, liberal, communist, race doesn't matter, if he were white, chinese, latino or whatever, it's all the same animal. I was worried when this man got elected that race relations would deteriorate and with the race baiters and their industry in full swing, we all have no chance. The Sherrod story is just one example and the Black panther case is another.. Two different wrongs.. It is a crying shame!

    Ray, I just read you confirming everything that I said, albeit with your own slanted spin on the subject. Focusing on the mistakes of the administration rather than the despicable attempt of Andrew Breitbart and Fox News to portray Sherrod as a racist is hardly an objective commentary on the issue. As a matter of fact, it appears that you are merely echoing the Fox chorus in an attempt to distract from the real "end of the matter".

    Incidentally, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack is taking responsibility for the resignation, and the White House says it had no part in the decision.

  • Ray 1 year ago

    @Lee

    I didn't confirm anything that you said. Nice try, though.
    Glenn Beck supported Shirley Sherrod. And he still does.

    Shirley Sherrod is saying one thing & Vilsack & the Obama administration are saying another. I personally believe that Sherrod was wronged by Breitbart, the Obama administration and the NAACP. Your beef is with what Sherrod said, not me.

    What she said goes against what Vilsack and the administration are saying. You would rather shill for Obama and the administration rather than see how she was wronged by the Obama administration and the NAACP and how she was thrown under the bus by them and victimized by them.

    The NAACP and the Obama administration are now saying that they were "snookered." How can this be when the NAACP had the entire video of Sherrod's speech at their disposal?

    That and what Sherrod said shows that the Obama administration and the NAACP don't want to accept responsibility for how they wronged Sherrod.

    EPIC FAIL on your part, Lee.

    I congratulate FOX for a job well done and I don’t mean the way that the reported the story. I asked myself why would FOX news the makers of TMZ got this story first and sat on it, why not report such a damaging story for the NAACP with the information they had. Then it hit me the plan was to wait to see what President Incompetent and his administration would do first then FOX would react. Now why FOX not running with the story about Mrs. Sherrod? Here is someone I feel should be a racist or have the right to be a racist. Here is why: 1. White man murder her father and the (just them) system at that time did what was consider a good job by not bring her father killer up on charges. 2. That murder lived next door which means that they had to see this guy almost every day. 3. She grew up in that Jim Crow environment and 4. Almost every aspect of her life has some type of harm be Clear Chanel, the Democratic and Republican parties have been working hard to show the world how weak A

    Ray, my beef is with Fox news and Glen Beck, both are lying regarding their initial responses to the tape and pointing fingers at the White House. You are doing the same thing. I haven't said a work about Sherrod's statement, so you conjecture a little more and come to the conclusion that I have a beef with what Sherrod said.
