Fox News buries story of President's Obama's trade deal in India

When a rumor came out that President Obama's trip to India was going to cost $200 million each day Fox News was all over the story.  There was little to support the outlandish $200 million figure besides an anonymous source in one of India's newspapers, but Fox News treated the rumor as fact.  Sean Hannity, Fox & Friends, Megyn Kelly, and Glenn Beck all treated the $200 million-a-day figure as a great controversy.  In fact, the $200 million figure was "wildly inflated" according to officials.  Part of the costs were supposedly going to send 34 U.S. warships to India.  A Pentagon spokesperson called the 34 warships number "absurd."  Of course, Fox News and Glenn Beck have still not run a correction.

While Fox News was anxious to cover the rumor of the President's alleged excess in India, they have not been so eager to cover the trade deal the President has made on the trip.  On his visit in India the President announced a a set of trade deals worth a total of $10 billion.  The deal includes the purchase of 33 737's from Boeing and 10 C17's.  The deals are estimated to support approximately 53,670 jobs.  In today's harsh job market, this deal is big news.  In the future India will make a much larger part of the world economy with much of population of 1.2 billion becoming more affluent.  As the President signaled in his statement, future trade with India could generate a tremendous amount of economic growth for the United States.

[Update: Fox News host Chris Wallace calls co-worker Dave Gallagher an "idiot" for believing the India trip rumor]

The President's deal has been a headline for nearly every other new organization.  CNN currently has the deal as their lead story on the top left of their website.  However, for Fox News the story does not seem to warrant the same kind of coverage as the $200 million-a-day rumor.  The trade deal has been mentioned on Fox News, but hardly been highlighted as the kind of job-creating deal it is.  On Fox News website, one kind find the story buried at the bottom of the page under a different story about the President's trip to India.

The conclusions seems obvious.  If a story is to get extensive coverage on Fox News it must have some potential for doing political damage to the Obama administration.

Well the Obama supporters ares shining through on this one again! Forget politics, lets just look at the trade aspect. We trade with China.. That was a great help to the U.S. economy. Our American dollars helped China flourish while we are stuck with inferior product. Trust me folks, I deal with electronics new and old and the good ole made in the USA products from the 90's are much higher quality and outlast China's trash they are feeding us. I will gladly pay more for quality than quantity. Notice I said quality, not more advanced as we design and engineer but outsource the labor to China. This was a major blow to our economy as we are pumping tons of money to China and what are we "trading"? Name one solid item that is greatly helping our economy that we ship to China! I can name thousands that we purchase that cost the US billions of dollars. Whoop dee doooo!!! So were going to build 33 737 for India. I work in the aeronatics industry and will tell you that it wil not create 53,000 jobs by building 33 737's. What else will they purchase? Nothing! you know why, because they will be making all of our appliance, electronics, clothing, shoes computer, cell phones, some disgrace of a automobile, cheap jewlery, toys and the list goes on. Show me a product in your home that says made int the USA and I will find 30 in your home that say made in China. Next move will be the same only made in India. And the statment that India is not stealing jobs from American but only helping America run more efficiently is a load and a half. Try talking to one of them for tech support or in regards to a credit card issue. I have held better conversations with a brick wall and had better results. Wake up America!!!! We can't take anymore and we damn sure can't give anymore as we already owe the entire world trillions of dollars.

Are you blind??? He is creating high tech manufacturing, engineering, electronics and all the rest jobs for IDIANS, not Americans!! Since when is it good to make Americans on the trickle down side of International economics. We are unemployed here in America, what the fuck is he doing penning a deal to give much needed jobs to Indians? This is treasonous in its disregard for American interests and you talk about it like this is good news, what a dope you are.

    Dear Colleen
Those nifty planes he penned up are FOR India
and made IN the good ol USA by Boeing
    PS.try decaf you ranting t-bagger

Colleen, the planes will be made in America, by real Americans. Some of these Americans will appreciate having work to do. Others, like you, are too stupid to....well, you're just stupid.

I get it, you're doing a hit piece on FOX, an inaccurate hit piece too, I might add, but you're facts are wrong as usual. All you lefties are always wrong, always.
Since when does a President secure business deals in the private sector, hmmmm? He doesn't own big aerospace... not yet anyway. He is NOT responsible for BOEING'S exports, as much as you would like to say he is. This is something that's been in the negotiation stage for months, if not years. Obama didn't just show up and make it happen. And how does this lower unemployment? It doesn't.
Your boy is a catastophic failure, Tuesday was a confirmation of this. He has no experience at anything because he's nover done anything, ever. He's never run a business, he's never created a job, he's never met a payroll, never chaired a seat in any kind of corporate environment... nothng.
My guess is, there must have been some sensitive tech on the C-130's he needed to sign off on, that's aout it.

Talk about not telling the truth, or at the very least, misleading in reporting. You should be embarrassed.

    You're such a tool, lol.

"And how does this lower unemployment? It doesn't."

Rizz...... Surely you understand that before they can deliver these planes to India, they will have to build them. This means jobs. Get it. For people to build something, you pretty much have to pay them. In some circles, this is known as a job.

  • Billy 1 year ago

    >Since when does a President secure business deals in
    >the private sector, hmmmm?

Oh, Rizz. Your momma raised a dummy. Why do you think Presidents visit China and India? For vacation? Are you nuts? No, it's for economic reasons (i.e. to drum up business for American companies).

Don't you remember when ol' Dubya's administration went to bat for Enron in India (by threatening sanctions against the Indian govt. if they didn't pay Enron for the power plant, which came in way overbudget)? They really f'ed those poor Indian b*starts over proper!

  • babyfaceassas$in 1 year ago

who cares about experience in corporate america? they need to be removed from our politics anyway. oh how about the $200 million a day story i bet you was a good lil sheep cheering that one on!

  • lg_ 1 year ago

The employees at Boeing are probably breathing a collective sigh of relief. You can make stuff all day but if you can't sell it - production does not matter. Airplanes in the US would have wings falling off before the Airlines would buy a new one.
    But to the larger point.
Do saved jobs count? I say yes, some say no.
Boeing employees would probably say yes.
Did the president make it happen? No. Did he speed up the process? probably. - lg

So what IS the expense of the trip if it isn't 200 million a day. Is it 100 million a day - what the he11 is it? All that money for 10,000 jobs. Barry has a long way to go to recover the millions of jobs he lost in the last 2 years.

  • Just the FACTS Please 1 year ago

Really hate to fuck up your false perceptions with facts, but the FACT is that most jobs were lost BEFORE any of Obama's policies had any effect.

or that even it cost that much,he still made a profit! lol seriously though the whole trip won't cost more than 100 million. clintons africa trip, very similar was less tgan 60 mil total.

It is not true that FOX buried the story. They did a segment on it on "Specal Report with Bret Baier."

In terms of the purpose of his trip, whether it cost $2 billion or 2 cents, he could still stimulate jobs more cheaply by entering into trade agreements with Colombia, S. Korea, and several other places. That of course would infuriate the unions, which back Obama.

Wait a minute. Isn't it all you atheistic commies that are always telling us we were ascended from APES? Hey Rizz, your boys are a failure too. What has Sarah Palin ever done, she couldn't even finish one term as governor of Alaska and she's never done any of the things you've listed. Mike Huckabee was a lousy governor of Arkansas (a lousy state). Mike Huckabee never did any of the things you list either, nor have JIm Demint or Newt Gingrich. And how about Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman? Fiorina ruined HP, she did to HP what Dubya did to America. Everyone who ever worked for that company while she was CEO hates her guts. Carly spent $140 million dollars and couldn't get California voters to overlook the fact that when you put a Republican in charge they screw things up. Meg Whitman, same deal, she spent bundles of money and California voters ended up re-electing governor Moonbeam.

Here's the truth Rizz. Republicans suck. You want to talk about catastrophic failure. Well we had a Republican presidident, Congress and Supreme Court for six years and what did it get us. Putting Republicans in charge was nothing but years of catastrophic failure. You had all three branches of government and all you did was let 3,000 Americans die on 9/11 because Dubya didn't pay any attention to his intelligence briefings. Then Dubya and Cheney micromanaged the military and screwed things up at Tora Bora so that Osama bin Laden could escape. Then they started a war with Iraq, a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 over a trumped up threat of WMD. Then they ran up massive deficits and gave us No Child Left Behind, Medicare Part D and the Department of Homeland Security, an expensive boondoggle that has done nothing to make us more secure. Republicans = Epic Fail and when it comes to treason the Republicans have done more to damage America than Aldrich Ames, Jonathan Pollard or the Rosenbergs ever did.

Republicans are scum, failures and filth. Republicans like to complain about government spending, but that's a load of crap. Most of the Red States are taking in more from the federal government in spending than they pay in taxes, they're a bunch of lazy, thieving, whining welfare recipients who think that they can cover up their lies by screaming about Jesus and wearing flag pins.

Go to a teabagger rally and what do you see? Fat, lazy, stupid, undisciplined racist garbage. Dumb white trash doesn't even begin to describe these people. The baggers and losers like Rizz will never create anything of value. No one who goes to a teabagger rally or reads Glenn Beck will ever create a cure for cancer or start a new business like Microsoft or Google. In fact most of these retards couldn't even run a hot dog stand and they know it. They're stupid and lazy and rather than get off of their fat behinds (and out of their Medicare scooters) and try to learn something and be useful they'd rather just drag the rest of us down into their filth.
