Fourth quarter surge enough for Armor to defeat Jam 114-101

A 15-3 run to finish the game, punctuated by a JamesOn Curry three with less than a minute to play, was more than enough, as the Springfield Armor beat the Bakersfield Jam 114-101 on Sunday evening at the MassMutual Center. The Armor ended the month with a perfect 8-0 record and improved to 21-13 heading into the NBA D-League All-Star break. The loss ended the Jam’s four game winning streak.

The Armor outscored the Jam 37-19 in the fourth quarter to finish a come-from-behind victory over the Jam. The Jam led 55-45 at halftime, giving the Armor their largest deficit since late January, but could not sustain it in the second half. In the fourth, the Armor led 99-98 with three minutes to go before ripping off the 15-3 run to ice the game. The Armor used efficient foul shooting (21-24) in the second half to help put Bakersfield away in the waning stages of the game.

The Armor was led by a trio of players who posted double-doubles. Jeff Foote scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, followed by Dennis Horner with 21 and 12 boards,  and JamesOn Curry scored 16 (14 of those in the second half) and dished out 10 assists, Jerry Smith 24, and L.D. Williams 18.

The Jam committed 20 turnovers, including 14 in the second half, and Bakersfield was just 5-23 (.217) from three-point range. The Armor also out-rebounded Bakersfield 50-39 and scored 23 second chance points to the Jam’s 6.

For the second straight game, Osiris Eldridge scored a team-high 22 points off the Jam’s bench, and Renaldo Major added 21 (15 in the first half) to lead the Jam on the offensive end.

The Jam will return to action on Feb 22 when they travel to Canton to take on the Charge. It will be their last game until the All-Star game on Feb 25.
