The Fourth of July is celebrated in the communities in the North Shore of Chicago with gatherings, parades and fireworks. Following are the Independence Day celebrations on in the northern suburbs for 2010.
Deerfield Family Days
The two day celebration takes place, Saturday and Sunday, July 3-4- at Jewitt Park.
Evanston July 4
On the Fourth of July there will be playground sports and games offered at parks throughout Evanston during the day. The Evanston 4th of July Twilight Concert featuring the Palatine Concert Band will start at 7:30 p.m. The 2010 musical fireworks extravaganza will be launched from Clark Street Beach and can be viewed from any part of the lakefront area east of Downtown Evanston.
Glenview July 5
The Independence Day celebration is on Monday, July 5. The day is kicked off with a bike parade at 11:00 a.m. And the main parade at 11:30 a.m. The Twilight show on the grounds of Glenview Park Golf Club (800 Shermer Rd.) begins at 7:30 p.m. with a patriotic concert by the 100 piece North Shore Concert Band. The climax of the show is the fireworks synchronized to patriotic music.
Great Lakes July 3-4
Naval Station at Great Lakes July 3 - 4 - The July 4th celebrations at Great Lakes Naval Base is held at Ross Field on Sheridan Road in Great Lakes. The two day festival includes music, entertainment, illusionists, bingo, jugglers, kid's activities, food and more. New to this year's event is a spectacular laser light show, beginning at 9:30 p.m. on July 3rd and the amazing fireworks show lights up Ross Field at 9:30pm on July 4th!
Highland Park 4th of July Celebration
The celebration begins with a parade at 11:00 am in downtown Highland Park. The Parade is followed by Fourth Fest at Sunset Woods Park, which includes a petting zoo, pony rides, food and music. Fireworks by the City of Highland Park are at dustk at Wolters Field.
Lake Bluff 4th of July Celebration
Lake Bluff celebrates from Friday – Sunday, July 2-4 with Taste of Lake Bluff, music,a beverage oasis and entertainment. On Sunday the 100th Lake bluff 4th of July Parade begins at 10:00 a.m.
Lake Forest – July 4
The 4th of July community celebration includes a fireworks display sponsored by the Lake Forest Symphony. The fireworks display is scheduled for 9:15 – 9:45 p.m. At Deerpath Community Park.
Lincolnshire July 3-4
Lincolshire celebrates Red, White and BOOM! For two days. The 4th of July Lincolnshire Parade starts at 11:30 a.m. On Sunday. The fireworks show starts at 9:30 p.m.
Morton Grove July 4
The community parade steps off at 2:30 pm. On Fuly 4th. The parade steps off from Central & Dempster and travels west to Harrer Park. The fireworks take place at Harrer Park at 9:30 p.m.
Northbrook July 4
Northbrook celebrates Friday – Sunday, July 2-4. at Village Green Park at Shermer and Meadow Roads from 7 – 11 a.m. On Friday at 7:30 p.m DJ Entertainment – Strictly for Fun. The Bee Movie begins at dusk. Pack a picnic basket and enjoy dinner on the lawn. On Sunday, July 4, ther bike parade starts at 2:15 p.m., followed by the Mile Long Parade with floats, music and fun at 2:30. The parade begins at Cherry and Western and ends at Green Park. There will be a short evening program at 8:45 p.m. And fireworks at dusk at Velodroma.
Skokie July 4
The Fourth of July parade starts at noon on Sunday. The theme of the 4th of July Parade Making a Difference Through Service. The celebration continues into the evening with a concert and picnic at Niles West High School. The music begins at 6:00 p.m. with world music band Old Tapo ImI, followed by cover band Final Day. The 3-D Fireworks Fest begins at dusk. The first 10,000 people get a free pair of 3-D glasses.
Wilmette July 3
The 2010 Independence Day Celebration, hosted by the Wilmette Park District, will take place on Saturday, July 3, at Gillson Park, starting at 4:00 p.m. The event features games, rides, family activities, Entertainment, roving performers, and Tastefest. A traditional concert of patriotic music by the Palatine Concert Band is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Wallace Bowl. A sneak preview of this summer's Starlight Theatre musical feature precedes the concert. The Grand Firework display lights up the sky at 9:30 p.m. In case of rain, the fireworks will be rescheduled to a later date.
Winnetka July 4
The Fourth of July Parade is at 1:00 p.m. On Sunday. The parade steps off from Elm and Glendale Streets and head east to the Village Green. There will be a flag raising ceremony, children's flag parade and family activities at the Village Green starting at 2:00 p.m. Fourth fest begins at Duke Childs Field at 6:30 p.m. With family activities. Bring a picnic lunch or purchase food from the vendors. A concert featuring the music of Mind's I will begin at 7:00 pm. The fireworks spectacular show on the North Shore begins at 9:15 p.m.
