Today is horror icon H.P. Lovecraft's 123rd birthday. He was born on this day in 1890 in Providence, RI and Lovecraft passed in 1937. Well since today is his birthday, I've provided four things to do to celebrate this event.
1. Read His Stories
Go to the local library and check out some of his books. If you have an e-reader on Archive.org you can download a book filled with many of his stories. If you have family or friends who also like to read his works, make a party out of it. Don't really feel like reading them yourself, well LibriVox can help you on that: "Seven H.P. Lovecraft Stories." LibriVox is a website that has voulnteers who read chapters of books in the public domaan and release the audio back onto the web. Their goal is make all books that are in the public domain available as free audiobooks.
2. Watch A Movie Based on His Work
There are many movies that are based on Lovecraft's work and some are better than others. If you feel like renting some movies tonight, "Re-Animator," "From Beyond," "The Lurking Fear," "Die Monster Die," are just a few to name.
3. Get in the Game Mood
Feeling like having some fun? FOG.com has a game on their website called, De-Animator, it's a game where you fight off the zombies that Herbert West created. The rating of the game is average, it's a 3 out 5 stars so it may help pass the time or just really make you hate it.
4. Become a Member of the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society
If you really want to show your love, join the H.P. Lovecraft Society for only $20 for a 1 year membership. Here's a link that talks more about the society and what you get for your membership: HPLHS Membership.
So those are just some ideas for those who can't get enough of Lovecraft and want to celebrate his 123rd birthday.
