A day after releasing their first Big 12 football schedule, TCU was rocked with what is being labeled as one of the worst incidents in TCU history. A total of 17 students were arrested as a result of a police investigation. Four of those arrested are reported to be members of TCU's football team, including one former and one future starter.
The names of those arrested have not been reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, with linebacker Tanner Brock, defensive lineman D.J. Yendry, offensive tackle Tyler Horn and cornerback Devin Johnson listed in police documents. Brock did not play in 2011 due to injury but was the leading tackler for the Horned Frogs during thir undefeated 2010 season.
The investigation is ongoing and according to reports the investigation began six months ago with TCU campus police working with the Fort Worth Police Department. More arrests could be made, according to TCU chancellor Victor J. Boschini Jr. The operation centered on marijuana, cocaine, Ecstasy and prescription drugs.
"We have a responsibility to ensure that our campus environment is free of such behavior," TCU chancellor Victor J. Boschini Jr. said in a statement released by TCU. "Today's actions highlight that responsibility. The students involved were immediately separated from TCU and criminally trespassed from campus. Further, according to University policy, students arrested and found in violation of distributing drugs are subject to immediate expulsion from TCU."
Three students were arrested on campus, and 14 others were arrested off-campus Wednesday morning on various drug charges.
"I'm extremely concerned," Boschini said. "If one kid is involved, it's one kid too many."
TCU head coach Gary Patterson released a statement saying, "I was shocked, then hurt and now I'm mad."
