Tomorrow is January 1, 2014. The start of a brand new year.
It's the perfect time for reflection and planning. By following a simple 4-part roadmap, you can take steps to set some practical resolutions in the New Year.
Your Final Score - How did 2013 go for your job search? Remember that one of the keys to success is setting specific targets to shoot at. Did you set any? Did you take your best shots? How was your "hit rate?" What helped you to hit your targets? Who helped you?
The most critical target for job hunters is employers. Targets such as companies you are interested in. The great hockey star Wayne Gretzsky once said "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." You have to pick your targets and take your best shots. What will help you? Who can help you? Setting your specific targets will ensure that you focus your intention and energy in 2014.
Your Learning - What did knowledge did you acquire in 2013? Remember that one of the essential elements of success is continuous self-improvement via learning and adaptability. What did you learn this past year? How did you learn it? Who helped you to learn it?
What will you learn this year? How will you learn it? Who can help you to learn it?
Your Experiments - What did you try in 2013? Remember that one of the essential ingredients of success is innovation: trying new ways and new things that help move your search to a new level. What creative projects did you self-initiate in 2012? How did they go? What did you discover?
What creative projects will you self-initiate in 2014?
Your Network - Who did you meet in 2013? Remember that one of the essential keys to success in life is the connections you make with the people you meet. Think back over all the people you met during the past year. People you already knew and people you met for the first time. What "gifts" did they give to you? How did you help them? Have you kept in touch?
Who would you like to meet in 2014? They could be new people or people you already know. How might you help them achieve their targets? Who could you team up with in 2014?
2014 is opening before you. Take some time now to strategize for success.
