Josh Wilson’s two-run single capped a four-run seventh inning as the Round Rock Express (21-20) took a tight 7-6 decision over the Iowa Cubs (21-18) on Saturday night at Principal Park. Iowa held the lead three times in the back and forth affair.

The see-saw game saw the Express turn a 5-3 deficit into a 7-5 lead in the top of the seventh. In the inning the Express collected four hits (all singles), a walk, a hit batter, sacrifice fly, stolen base, and an Iowa Cubs wild pitch.

Iowa cut the lead to 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Logan Watkins, scoring Eli Whiteside. That is a close as Iowa would get on the evening.

Iowa took an early 2-0 lead in the first when Javier Baez pulverized a 2-1 pitch off Express starter Daniel McCutchen deep over the center field wall for his fourth home run of the season. Arismendy Alcantara scored ahead of Baez after walking earlier in the inning.

The Express produced ten hits in the game, all singles. The Express tied the game at 2-2 in the third on RBI singles by Adam Rosales and Brad Snyder.

Iowa re-took the lead in the bottom of the third when Alcantara’s RBI double scored Watkins who led off the inning with a double.

With the game tied at 3-3 in the sixth, Christian Villanueva came through with a big two-out, two-run single to center scoring Alcantara and Baez, temporarily giving Iowa a 5-3 lead.

Eduardo Figueroa (1-1) suffered the loss for Iowa, giving up three of the four runs the Express scored in the seventh.

Cory Burns (2-2) picked up the victory in relief after replacing McCutchen in the sixth. Roman Mendez pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings to pick up his first save of the season for Round Rock.
