Four West Tennessee men were shot after an early Sunday morning fight broke out in a Jackson hotel parking lot, according to a Sunday afternoon news release from the Jackson Police Department. The fight occurred as attendees of a birthday party were leaving the hotel.

The release said Jackson police had a 25-year-old Oakfield man in custody and was holding him for questioning Sunday afternoon.

Police had not released the names of the victims, who are all in their 20s.

The release said shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to Roadway Inn, located at 1963 U.S. 45 Bypass. The victims, who all had gunshot wounds, were transported to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital either by ambulance or personal vehicle.

Police said the preliminary investigation shows that a woman from Brownsville was having a birthday party at the hotel. When people began leaving, a fight occurred on the parking lot and shots were fired by at least two people.

The release said a 24-year-old Jackson man and a 21-year-old Brownsville man were both transferred, in critical condition, to the Regional Medical (The Med) Center in Memphis.

A 23-year-old Jackson man was admitted into the Jackson hospital in critical but stable condition, police said. A 24-year-old Brownsville man was treated and released.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the JPD's Major Crimes Bureau at 731-425-8400. You can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 731-424-8477 (TIPS) or submit a cyber tip at jmcrimestoppers.org and click on “web tips”.
