Four men and a woman were injured in a shooting Monday night at an apartment complex in northwest Atlanta. And police are trying to determine what motivated the shooting as well as who was the target.
Shortly before 10 p.m. officers responded to 1181 Joseph E. Boone Blvd. after getting a report of multiple people shot at the complex, according to Atlanta police.
When officers arrived they found the first victim, 23-year-old Antonio Allen, lying in the driveway with a gunshot wound to his right leg, according to the police report. They found the second victim, 19-year-old Jaquan Pelts, in one of the apartments with a gunshot wound in his left and right legs. Also, in the same apartment, 17-year-old Jatavious Alexander, was suffering from a gunshot wound to his left leg, police said.
The fourth victim, 48-year-old Cusona Kendra who lives in that apartment, had grazed wound to her back, police said.
Officers found the fifth victim, 22-year-old Martavis Cooper, at the back of the apartment complex with two gunshot wounds to his stomach, three gunshot wounds to his right leg, a gunshot wound to his left leg and left hip, police said.
Allen and Cooper were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital while Pelts and Alexander were transported to the Atlanta Medical Center, police said. All four were in stable condition. Kendrick, who sustained only a minor injury, refused treatment, police said.
The four men said they were standing on the sidewalk in front of the complex when they heard gunfire. They began to run, but realized soon after that they were struck by the projectiles, police said.
Pelts and Alexander ran into Kendrick's apartment for cover and at that point a bullet came through her wall and grazed her in the back. Cooper said after being shot he ran to the back of the complex where he collapsed.
All of the victims Involved stated they did not see the suspects because it was dark outside, police said. Across the street in an alley, investigators found twenty 7.62x39 steel shell casing along with four .45 caliber steel shell casings and four 9mm brass shell casings, police said. There was also one bag of suspected marijuana located next to a pool of blood on the sidewalk in front of the apartment complex where Allen was found, police said.
