Four hotels and a dad (part three of four)

The Hotel Le Marais in the French Quarter

Hotel Le Marais in the French Quarter is more than just a budget-friendly boutique alternative to the mammoth chains along the Riverfront.

From the moment Dad walks through the mod, violet and blue lobby to his first night down at the VIVE bar, Hotel Le Marais on Conti near Bourbon will surprise and inspire. Dad can take a cool swim in the saltwater pool, then towel off and walk directly into the bar for a Southern specialty. This examiner enjoyed a Southern Peach Tea, but Pops can have his pick of a bevvy of N'awlins specialties.

What will further delight: the European feel of the smallest of touches, from the bold black and white cool decor in the bathrooms to the deep walkin doorless shower. It feels more like a Parisian cave than an American shower.

I found a number of not only out-of-towners but international travelers at Hotel Le Marais, such as a delightful woman from Montreal who succinctly summed up why I felt so at home: it does feel very much like an intimate home away from home, if our abode is in Normandy or Rio.

And the hotel is at turns exotic, while also homey. Staff is first rate and will tend to your every need. I appreciated too always being asked how my day was or if I needed another ginger snap (yes, please!).

Dads who love to party can get their fill of it at night, and jazzy dads are just steps away from the legendary Preservation Hall.

So send your fun, young dad on a sweet, affordable night or weekend out of town.
