Four Fitness Events for Good Causes

Now, that spring is on the horizon it is time to think about getting in shape, and staying fit. There are several events that do just that and are for very good causes.

The American Heart Association will be holding their 37th annual Heart Mini weekend on March 15th and 16th.. There will be several healthy events for all ages and fitness levels. Some of the events include a Health and Fitness Expo March 15th at Duke Energy Convention Center with all types of exhibits, and fitness education.

The celebration continues on March 16th with various races and walks to promote healthy lifestyles. Some of the events are 15K Heart Mini Marathon, Heart ½ Marathon, 5K Heart Run, 5K & 10K Heart Walks, 2K Kids’ Mini MaraFun and 1K Steps for Stroke for heart and stroke survivors.

Money raised at the event works to research heart disease and stroke, and educate people so heart diseases are no longer the nation’s # 1 killer. Information on the event is online at:‎

Another fun event is the Flying Pig Marathon events on May 2nd, 3rd,and 4th. It includes races, walks, and health clinics to celebrate Cincinnati and its greatness. Monies raised will be split among 30+ charities in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Some of the highlights are a Full Marathon, Half Marathon, four-person Relay, 10K, 5K, Kids events, music, food, medals and awards. Information on the event is online at:

The Freestore challenges you to end hunger and homelessness on May 26th with their 11th annual 5k Hungerwalk through downtown Cincinnati starting at Sawyer Point. The Freestore annually aids over 275 agencies, in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana ranging from food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and community centers. Over 300 thousand people last year received assistance in one form or another from outreaches provided by the Freestore. Furthermore, 18 million pounds of food were distributed from local groceries. The Family Nurturing Center on May 31st will be holding their Blue-Ribbon 5K in Highland Heights Ky. They seek to end the cycle of child abuse and promote individual and good family relationships. More information is available at:
