Founders Brewing expands distribution to Texas

Houston craft beer fans have cause for celebration today, March 5, 2013.

Founders Brewing, one of the most renowned craft breweries in the nation with multiple awards under its belt, has announced that it will begin distribution to the Lone Star State starting in April, 2013. The Michigan- based brewery announced a partnership with Ben E. Keith Distributors and plans to introduce its beers to Texas starting this spring.

What would make a brewery headquartered in Michigan decide it wants to expand all the way to Texas? The reason is the surge in popularity of craft beer in the state and the growing market for such products. “Texas is an up-and-coming market, and we’re impressed with what we’re seeing there,” said Founders Brewing CEO Mike Stevens. “We’ve been getting more and more inquiries from Founders fans in Texas over the past couple of years. The Ben E. Keith team is dedicated to the craft beer market and is helping introduce complex brands like ours to eager consumers who are hungry for them. Besides, we’ve always wanted to get Founders beer to Willie Nelson’s home state. Now the time is right.”

Founders Brewing plans to distribute all of its products to Texas. Regular releases such as Centennial IPA, Founders Porter, Pale Ale, and Dirty Bastard as well as seasonal/specialty products like Founder’s Breakfast Stout, All Day IPA, Curmudgeon Old Ale, Double Trouble, Red’s Rye, and others will make their way to Texas in the coming months in bottled and/or draft form.

Ben E. Keith Distributors is equally enthused about the Founders Brewing partnership. “We are delighted to partner with Founders,” said Kevin Nettleton, Specialty Division Manager at Ben E. Keith, “and are eager to distribute their esteemed beers in Texas.”

Founders Brewing, centered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is enjoying a growth spurt of its own. The brewery is presently in the midst of a $26 million expansion project at its headquarters and when complete, the additional space will add about 165,000 barrels of annual production capacity, boosting Founders’ total annual beer output to about 340,000 barrels per year.

With Founders Brewing products added to the available beer selection, Texas residents will have yet another assortment of delicious craft beer from which to choose. I have sampled several and have found every Founders product well above average in quality with several ranking among the best I have ever tasted.

Mark your calendars for April 8, 2013 and look for Founder Brewing products at your favorite beer store or other retailer.
