I Heard Your Cry Foundation, Inc. had a wonderful week of domestic violence awareness events during the first week that kicks off this very important month.
The foundation is one which brings awareness to domestic and sexual violence through outreach and community coordination. It also brings in the faith community and area businesses to partner for this great cause. Many shy away from these delicate topics, however they are ever-present in society and in our own back yard.
October 1, 2013 marked the beginning of a series of events that helped the foundation bring awareness to its goal and unite community leaders. A press conference was held on the 1st, and included the faith community as well as others interested in coordinating with the foundation. Many heard about the foundation for the first time and met the founder Cassandra Collins, sharing their common heart about this important topic. On October 2, IHYC hosted a Domestic Violence Forum at the local library and invited the community out to hear local advocates speak about their work in the field of victim services and how they are able to rely on their faith to help them carry on this very important and necessary work. October 3, ended the week with a banquet for community partners who were interested in helping IHYC be a force within Tallahassee, Leon County and beyond. Representatives from local law enforcement, the faith community, Crime Stoppers, the House of Representatives, Oasis Center for Women and Girls and many others were on hand to share their heart about the plight of those who experience domestic violence.
Partnerships with businesses and those who serve this population are imperative in the success of the foundation and helping victims become survivors. Planning is already underway for an April, 2014 event that will continue to bring awareness to the community about those affected by domestic and sexual violence.
