Mary Whitty and several other Astoria residents have been caring for their neighborhood strays for sometime now. However they have noticed that some of the familiar "regulars" from their cat colonies are disappearing. Concerns have begun to grow as to the whereabouts of these missing cats.
At first she had not suspected foul play, but after she began to inquire through signs, and campaigns frightening stories came pouring in. Mary says, "tales were told of antifreeze laced food, traps set in garages, and dead bodies in boxes".
Mary had began to call 311, and several other agencies but to no avail they have been unable to help due to lack of evidence.
Whitty has set up a meeting in regards to this situation and is asking fellow caretakers to attend a community board meeting on January 21st, 2014.
