FotoDC the premiere non-profit arts organization dedicated to providing exposure for photographers worldwide announces the launch of the 5th annual International Awards Competition.

The 2012 competition will honor extraordinary work by established and emerging photographers from the Washington, DC region and around the world. This year, International Awards Competition is offering two exciting new categories: FotoBooks and Modern Vintage. Photographers can submit self-published print, electronic photo books, and compelling Modern Vintage single images captured on mobile devices using hot app filters such as Instagram, or with vintage cameras such as Lomography, Brownie, Holga, and Polaroid.

A distinguished panel of industry experts will hand select winners in 13 categories, with prizes for the top 3 winners in each category and $26,000 in cash awards. Winners will also receive complimentary annual subscriptions to FotoPage, FotoDC’s innovative new online portfolio and gallery platform. Award winning print books, e-books, and select photographic prints will be exhibited at FotoWeekEDU @ Goethe Institut, Washington, DC during FotoWeekDC, November 9-18, and will be shown through December 18, 2012.

“In it’s 5th year, we are proud to say that the International Awards Competition has become more prestigious than ever, with great exposure for photographers from across the globe. We are excited to present two new categories, and believe the awarded work will lead to our most exciting FotoWeek Festival ever this November,” said Theo Adamstein, Founder and Executive Director at FotoDC.

The popular People's Choice Award is also returning for FotoWeekDC’s 5th anniversary celebration. Friends and fans can have a say in the People’s Choice outcome by casting votes for their favorite entries. The top 20 images across all categories will win additional recognition, including an annual FotoPage subscription for each winning photographer and online exposure through the People’s Choice Gallery on the following website.

The competition is open to all photographers, both professional and amateur, with an early bird discount for work submitted by August 6, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. PST. The final deadline for submission is September 23 at 11:59 p.m. PST. FotoDC's mission is to provide exposure for photographers and to make diverse, high-quality photography accessible to audiences through the exhibition of inspiring and provocative images, dynamic programming, and collaborations with the local and international community. Founded as FotoWeekDC in 2008, the weeklong photography festival, rebranded in 2011 to become FotoDC, and launched new programs to provide greater exposure for photographers year round. The annual FotoWeekDC Festival to be held this November 9 – 18 continues to be FotoDC’s largest project with over 40,000 attendees each year. For further information visit here.
