This weekend FotoDC is sponsoring a unique event, FOTOBazaar. FOTOBazaar is a funky pop-up gallery space located in the NoMa neighborhood of Washington DC at 51 N Street NE. If you are familiar with the Washington DC contemporary art scene, you may know Artomatic. Well FOTOBazaar is like an Artomatic for photography. It offers photographers and artists the opportunity to exhibit their work in an un-juried and un-curated environment, for a “reasonable” fee. This pop-up gallery, will only exist for three days, from October 4 – 6, 2013.

The wonderful thing about FOTOBazaar is that it is a exceptional snapshot (no pun intended) of the photography that is here in Washington DC. There are no restrictions of who can exhibit. So you will see 200 emerging photographers, seasoned pros and enthusiastic hobbyists all in a democratic artistic setting. FOTOBazaar definitely has its share of iconic Washington DC scenery. There is no shortage of obelisks and domes. However, there are many personal expressions that encompass a variety of themes and technologies. There is also a wide range of output media of all sizes and materials. While FOTOBazaar is an un-juried exhibit, in the end it curates itself and presents a remarkable photographic viewing event.

FOTOBazaar is a great way to spend an afternoon. One of the added pleasures of experiencing of FOTOBazaar is the opportunity of talking with the photographers and artists whose works are on exhibit. This is something that art lovers and enthusiasts seldom get the chance to do. This exchange of ideas is also good for the artists too. They have the opportunity to share their ideas as well as their images outside of their normal artistic communities.

Sunday is the last day of FOTOBazaar, and it will close at 6:00 PM. The “gallery” is located a block from the Red Line Metro NoMa- Gallaudet Univ. station. If you are thinking of using Metro, from 10pm on Friday - Sunday, FREE buses will replace Red Line trains between DuPont Circle and NoMa-Gallaudet stations. Go check it out.
