Foster Parents; This is Support?
2 of 4
By now you have discovered that your well being through education is of great concern to your examiner.
In part 1 of this series we answered your question; “where can I find real support”. The answer was simply one word or should we say one support group; nfpcar.
Now let us expound on what our group will do for you and what we are all about. Let us continue.
We were discussing the legal system and your being prepared to handle your own case, “Pro Se”. We will always be truthful with you and tell you that this is only to be attempted if you cannot afford an attorney, which statistics indicate that 57 % of all American’s experience at one time or another in their lives.Alternative no one at your agency has told you about.
However, we believe that people can do this if they have to although, we do not recommend it. Once you understand the language the system speaks, you understand the basics you will become more comfortable in this otherwise very intimidating system. We are not attorneys ourselves but advocates. On the group;you will;
- participate in discussions on subjects pertaining to foster/adoptive and biological parents and glean from our experiences.
- you will be better prepared to stand up for yourself,
- know your rights as well as the rights of your children
- know what to do in most situations, not only for yourself but on behalf of others.
- You will be able to ask questions, any questions as you have asked here.
- Get your questions answered truthfully without the "gloss over approach".
- Open discussions on things you would have no opportunity to do in a classroom and/or training.
This in a nut shell is advocacy. Remember, no one who tells you that they have all the answers does. We learn from one another each and everyday, our website is an ongoing development. What we have made available is there on your behalf, it is brought to you through many years of learning from hands on experience from our 800 members. we are nfpcar.
Curious as to what that stands for, The "National Foster Parents Coalition for Allegation Reform, come join us. A coalition is a pact or treaty among individuals or groups, during which they cooperate in joint action, each in their own self-interest, joining forces together for a common cause. Wikipedia
