A dog named "Willie Nelson," was unwittingly hiding something beneath his beautiful, golden fur.

This week, the rescue agency "Big Dog Rescue Project," pulled Willie Nelson from a San Antonio, Texas, based animal control and he was transported to his new foster home.

It did not take long for the dog's foster handler to notice that something was amiss...a terrible smell was coming from the dog and she went to work to find out the source of the odor.

Hidden beneath Willie Nelson's matted fur was a collar...deeply embedded in his skin.

The dog had arrived to the Texas animal control as a stray...nobody knows his history...nobody knows who allowed the collar to become so tight that it dug painfully into the fragile skin of his neck.

Fortunately, there is a happy future for this one-time stray. He is being cared for by the Family Petcare clinic in Fort Worth, Texas, and he will recover from his long-time neglect.

After the rescue agency announced the need for help with Willie Nelson's vetting expenses, their Facebook followers quickly sprang into action to help.

As is so often the case, it takes a village to save those in need - welcome to your new life Willie Nelson.
