Foster Grant 85th anniversary celebration with Kat Graham

Eyewear giant Foster Grant is celebrating their 85th anniversary this year, and presented a fun and informative day party last week to honor their past and reveal their latest looks. Guests at the Gansevoort Park event previewed the new Foster Grant sunglasses, enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres and cocktails, and met the newest face of Foster Grant, actress and singer Kat Graham.

Graham stars on the hit CW show “The Vampire Diaries,” and is an accomplished singer and dancer. She is also passionate about humanitarian work, and is a long-time advocate for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Foster Grant is also committed to human welfare issues across the globe, and CEO Cesar Melo discussed the company’s charitable initiatives at Thursday’s event.

“Vision is important,” he said. “People think about sunglasses just as a fashion statement. In reality, we’re protecting people’s eyes from the sun.

“You’re going to India, and you find a billion people exposed to the sun the whole year without eye protection. I think Foster Grant has a role to play in protecting those eyes. We’re trying to partner with an organization that donates sunglasses to countries in need.”

Graham expressed humility and optimism regarding her role as a Foster Grant spokesperson.

“I hope to continue my work – the work of human rights, the work that I’m doing with UNHCR, for refugees, and for people that aren’t as fortunate as us in this room right now.

“I believe that [Foster Grant and I] are great partners, and that we’re going to make the world a better place, and we’re going to be fashionable while doing it.”

She also described one of the qualities that distinguishes Foster Grant from other sunglasses brands.

“One of the reasons I was so excited and inspired to be a part of Foster Grant, is because it really focuses on accessing a person’s individuality. If you look around the room – all these beautiful women, all these amazing men – we’re all so different.

“I love how we can all jump in a pair of Foster Grant sunglasses and still be ourselves, and still be part of the same line – the same designer. I really think it’s important to be part of a company that celebrates individuality... and I am so humbled to join a long line of Hollywood icons who have been a part of the Foster Grant family."

Graham joins a long line of iconic celebrities who have starred in the “Who’s that behind those Foster Grants?” campaign, including Mia Farrow, Raquel Welch, and Brooke Shields.

As Melo stated, the classic company has an incredible past, and an even brighter future.

“Foster Grant is an American brand,” he said. “It started here, but we have turned Foster Grant into a global brand.

“There’s a lot of room for Foster Grant to grow. We’re already selling Foster Grant in more than 25 countries... the sky’s the limit.”
