The following are events and activities of interest to genealogists this weekend.
January 14: Visit Heritage Park, 201 Cullum Drive in Euless. Tours are free on the second Saturday of every month from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Group tours can be scheduled on a different day depending on staff availability. Tour the Fuller House, the first brick home in Euless which is now a museum, built by a member of the pioneer Fuller family; the Himes Log House, built in the 1850s; and the McCormick Barn, built in 1919. January 14: Military Museum of Fort Worth: "Sea Dogs and Devil Dogs" / Stories of the US Navy and US Marines,” featuring artifacts and stories from the last 100 Years. US Navy and US Marines Information is presented from World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Through April 1: “Forgotten Gateway: Coming to America through Galveston Island.” This exhibition tells the story of how hundreds of thousands of immigrants came to America through Galveston Island long before Ellis Island came to be. It was also a port for the sale and transport of slaves from Africa and the rest of the United States into Texas. Admission to this exhibition is included with Museum of Science and History exhibition admission: $14 for adults, $10 for children (2-12) and seniors (60+). Museum members are free. Through June 30: Texas State Genealogical Society (TSGS) is accepting applications to be included in “Volume 3 of Texas First Families Lineages,” to be published by TSGS in November. Applicants do not have to be members of TSGS nor residents of Texas, but must be able to prove their ancestor was in Texas before February 19, 1846. Applications can be completed online and printed.
