Fort Smith and Van Buren plan Valentine's Day festivities

The weekend is almost here, which means it is time to stop and smell the roses for a few days. That also means getting out and having fun. Most of the action this weekend will be centered around Valentine's Day since the holiday falls on a Tuesday this year. It may surprise many to hear that there is not a lot going on, but the quality more than makes up for the quantity.

Many say that there is nothing more romantic than an old-fashioned carriage ride, and the owners of Circle L Ranch agree. Circle L Ranch is offering carriage rides up and down Garrison Avenue in Fort Smith on February 10th and 11th. The rides cost $20 per person, and family rates are also available. Couples are to meet at 4th and Garrison Avenue around 7 PM, and don't worry about bringing blankets; they are included. For more information call (918) 427-4195 or send them an email.

After the carriage ride, warm up and catch some live music at some of Fort Smith's best restaurants and clubs. This weekend Rooster's on the Avenue will be featuring QuadraJet on Friday and Indigo Montoya on Saturday. Both shows start at 10:30 PM and are free. For more information call (479) 783-2625

For those who are craving some Cajun cuisine along with their music R. Landry's is the place to visit. This weekend R. Landry's is featuring the vocal styles of Tom Ware on Friday and Tiffany Christopher on Saturday. Both shows start at 7 PM. R. Landry's can be reached at (479) 783-2505 or by email.

Van Buren is also getting into the Valentine's Day frame of mind with a Victorian Valentine's Day celebration on Saturday. The event will be on Saturday February 11th and will be held in downtown Van Buren. There will be singers serenading strollers from 12 PM until 2 PM and carriage rides will be offered from 2 PM until 4 PM. At 7 PM the King's Opera House will be showing the black-and-white film Born Yesterday starring Judy Holliday and William Holden. Tickets will be available at the door for $5.

For those who prefer music to movies, but don't want to drive into Fort Smith, Big Jake's Cattle Company will be featuring Jill Wagoner on Friday and Gary Johnson on Saturday. Both performers are known in the area and enjoy getting the chance to entertain audiences. While there be sure to check out Big Jake's weekly themed specials. These specials will help diners save some money and offer a bit of dining diversity. Both singers will be performing from 6 PM until 9 PM For more information call (479) 474-5573.
