Fort Lauderdale man arrested for animal cruelty for kicking his dog

The Broward County Sheriff's Office arrested James Patten last week for allegedly violently kicking his dog at least 18 inches into a nearby overpass safety wall on State Route 84 in Fort Lauderdale last week.

According to nbc miami.com, Patten, 41, is being held in the Broward County Jail without bond.

Patten has been on probation for another animal cruelty charge.

Two Broward County Sheriff's detectives spotted Patten sitting on his bicycle and watched the man kick his pit bull terrier named Sandy. The dog cowered, put her tail between her legs, and just stayed there until detectives approached. At that point Sandy cowered and growled; a possible sign of abuse.

Sandy is currently in the care of Broward County Animal Control.
