Fort Hood Soldier dies of non-combat incident in Afghanistan

Late today, May 12, 2014, the Department of Defense announced the death of a Fort Hood Soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Chief Warrant Officer Deric M. Rasmussen, 33, of Oceanside, Calif., died May 11, in Mazar E Sharif, Afghanistan, as the result of a non-combat incident.

His death brings to 2,180, the number of troop losses associated with fighting the war in Afghanistan.

CWO Rasmussen was assigned to the Company C, 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas.

Service arrangements have not been released by his family.
