Fort Hood gunman photo: Ivan Lopez photo released by authorities

The first photo of the Fort Hood gunman, Ivan Lopez, has been released by authorities. On April 3, NBC News posted the first official photo of Ivan Lopez, an army specialist. Lopez looks rather unassuming, just like an average guy -- which is how his neighbors on the base described him.

"Lopez served eight years in the Army National Guard in Puerto Rico before enlisting in the Army in June 2008, military officials told the Senate on Thursday. He was assigned to Fort Bliss, Texas, before transferring to Fort Hood two months ago, according to military records," reports NBC News.

The Fort Hood gunman's photo appears to be his license picture though there are a few other photos circulating from a Facebook page believed to have been his. Ivan Lopez, 34, was married and had a young daughter said to be about 3-years-old. A motive behind the shooting that left three dead and injured 16 others is unknown at this time.

Ivan Lopez turned his .45 Caliber Smith & Wesson gun on himself when he was approached by an officer after yesterday's shooting. He was the fourth death in yesterday's tragic events. As previously reported, Lopez was being treated for mental illness prior to his rampage.
