Fort
For those who may not know it, the park was a working military post until 1910. Take a tour of the fort area and visit the Quartermaster Storehouse Museum where you'll find displays, artifacts, photographs and a touch-screen computer that provides narration and film clips about day's gone by.
For sunbathing and shell collecting, the powder white sand of the beach goes on for miles. The park also has two fishing piers, swimming centers, restaurants and covered picnic areas. Overnight and extended camping is available and for those who enjoy the outdoors, there are hiking trails and canoeing through the mysterious mangroves. The park is open daily but does close at dark. Call ahead for camping reservations.

one of the most beautiful places in the world i've ever been. and i live in the caribbean!
I love Fort DeSoto. I lived in the St. Pete-Clearwater area for 15 years, and it was always one of the best places to go to escape the daily grind (except on holidays, when the beach gets packed).
