Fort Campbell Soldier attacked and killed in Afghanistan

Early this evening, the Department of Defense announced the death of a Fort Campbell Soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Pfc. Matthew H. Walker, 20, of Hillsboro, Missouri, died June 5, 2014, in Paktika province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked by enemy fire.

Pfc. Walker was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

There was no information released regarding other Soldiers who might have been injured in this deadly attack.

The death of Pfc. Walker is the second reported by the Pentagon this month and brings to 2,185 the number of U.S. forces lost while fighting the Global War on Terror in Afghanistan.

Walker's family has not released information regarding services in his hometown.
