Fort Bend Brewing coming to Sugarland area

Well, it looks like the Sugarland area will get its new brewery after all.

As Houston craft beer fans are aware, a brewing operation by the name of Kreuz Creek Brewing was supposed to open sometime in 2011 and prospects looked good through the late Spring and early summer as Kreuz Creek personnel updated the Facebook page and offered merchandise for sale through the Kreuz Creek website. Then, suddenly, there were no more Facebook updates and the web site address no longer functioned. We all hoped the issues would be worked out and that owner/brewer Jeff King’s vision would be realized, but with no hints of positive news, hopes slowly faded each day.

Now, it looks like a brewery is going to open, but plans have changed somewhat. Jeff King will be part of the operation, but the new brewery is going to be Christened Fort Bend Brewing Company and it combines the brewing talents of King and Ray Self with the finance background of Barry Beard and entrepreneurial expertise of Ty Coburn. The plan is to open the brewery in a location central to US 59, Hwy 90, and the Sam Houston Beltway where it will produce ales and lagers in a 30 barrel brewhouse, packaged in both kegs and bottles.

Probably the main question on everyone’s mind is when Fort Bend Brewing will start selling its products to the public. According to sources at the brewery, the operation should be up and running in early 2012 and should package its first cans and bottles in April, 2012. If things go as planned, the facility will be open for public tours starting in May, 2012.

Fort Bend Brewing plans to open its business with five products and along with King and Self, the brewery has contracted the services of brewer Jamie Fulton. No stranger to brewing great beer, Fulton’s products have won numerous awards, including medals at both the World Beer Cup and Great American Beer Festival. Utilizing the creative brewing talents of King, Self, and Fulton, Fort Bend Brewing hopes to expand the already fast- growing craft beer business in the Houston area with several more high- quality products.

More news about Fort Bend Brewing is likely to emerge in the coming weeks, so stay tuned to Examiner.com for more information as it becomes available.
