Forney's Free Movies in the Park schedule for 2014

The City of Forney Parks and Recreation Department announced their Free Movies in the Park schedule. This Friday, March 28, 2014 will kick off the free movie season at the Mick Spellman Amphitheater inside Forney Community Park. The park and amphitheater are located at 241 South FM 548. All movie goers under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult. You are encouraged to bring a blanket or small lawn chairs to sit on, and you are allowed to bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.

The Sandlot: (PG) The first free movie is The Sandlot. It starts at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 28. It's a nostalgic 1993 baseball themed movie, told by the character of Scotty Smalls. It follows young Scotty's new move to Los Angeles, his new baseball team and other adventures he and his friends find. The movie is being sponsored by the Forney Youth Baseball Association. The FYBA will be celebrating the opening day of their season on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Mulbery Park at 751 Bois D'Arc Street.

Hop: (PG) On Friday, April 11 at 8 p.m., the free movie will be the appropriately Easter themed Hop. This 2011 animated film is perfect for kids of all ages. The film mixes animation with live action scenes and it tells the story of the Easter Bunny's slightly rebellious son, E.B.

The Wizard of Oz: (PG) On Friday, May 9 at 8:30 p.m. you are invited to come out to the park and enjoy a colorized version of the original Wizard of Oz! A movie everyone should see at least once, this American classic tells the story of Dorothy, Toto, and the wonderful friends she makes in Oz.

The Avengers: (PG-13) This 2012 Marvels superhero movie will be shown on Friday, June 6 at 8:30 p.m. A Walt Disney Studios film, it is a favorite of kids and adults! Follow The Avengers, Iron Man, the Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, and the Black Widow, as they team up to save the world from disaster.

Wreck It Ralph: (PG) On Friday, June 13 at 8:30 p.m., the 2012 animated movie, Wreck It Ralph, will be shown at the Spellman Amphitheater. It's the story of a video game villain who desperately wants to shed his image and become a hero. Ralph and his fellow video game characters live at an arcade, and his effort to change his stripes causes all kinds of problems for them all!

The Goonies: It will be shown on Friday, June 20 at 8:30 p.m. If you are a member of Generation X, you have probably seen the hit 80s movie, The Goonies! The movie came out in 1985 and it follows a group of boys who find a treasure map and go out to seek their treasure. It's an adventure every kid has wanted to make at one time or another. It features some great actors who were just getting started at the time; Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, and Corey Feldman.
