The Forney Police Department will be hosting training classes for the Forney Citizens On Patrol program next Monday and Tuesday evenings, September 23 and 24. The classes will be held at police headquarters on FM 548 in Forney. You must attend both classes to become a COP member. Classes will start at 7 p.m. and will last approximately two hours.

If you are a new member of the Citizens On Patrol program or you are interested in joining the program, these classes are for you. There is no charge to attend. Attendees will have a chance to learn about the volunteer COP program and how it benefits the community. Though the COP program patrols only within Forney city limits, those living outside city limits are welcome to participate.

According to the Forney Police Department, “Currently the program uses two patrol cars designated as Citizens On Patrol patrol units, which they drive through our community assisting in crime prevention and alerting authorities of suspicious activities.” Detective Michael Clay advises that there will be “additional practices and activities” discussed during the training classes.
