The Forney Police Department reports that there has been an overall decrease in the crime rate in 2010 and 2011.
Forney Police Chief Rick Barnes told the Forney City Council that juvenile arrests have decreased by 54% and adult felony arrests have dropped by 12%. Those decreases in arrests have a direct correlation to the decrease in overall crime.
Residential burglaries are down 26%, vehicle burglaries dropped by 45% and drug related arrests went down 23%. The chief also reported a 19% decrease in missing persons cases. Forney police officers have made an effort to be more visible and proactive. It seems to be working.
It wasn’t all good news though. The increase in traffic around Forney has led to more traffic citations being issued. There were almost 700 more citations issued than the previous year. There was also a slight increase in commercial property burglaries and reported assaults.
Much of that can be attributed to the fact that Forney is now the biggest town in Kaufman County, with over 15,000 city residents and close to 40,000 residents in the 75126 zip code. The Forney PD has been able to hire three additional police officers to keep up with the growth in the population and will potentially hire more officers in the future.
