Ferrari fans on the Internet will choose the name of the team's 2014 Formula 1 car. The announcement was made by team President Luca di Montezemolo at a traditional pre-Christmas dinner for Italian media at the Fiorano circuit and was posted to the team website on Friday, December 20.

According to Ferrari, the name of the Scuderia's 2014 car will be chosen "this coming January by millions of Ferrari fans around the globe via the Internet."

The Italian Formula 1 team is actively engaging with its fans via its website and social media outlets. According to Ferrari, there were more than 12.5 million hits on its website in 2013, up 20 percent from 2012. Visitors came from Italy (the most, of course) but then Great Britain next, Spain, the USA, and Brazil but also from places like the Central African Republic, and Tonga.

After the announcement of the return of Kimi Raikkonen to Ferrari, web visitors from Finland increased to the team site by 554 percent.

The Ferrari Facebook page has passed 500,000 "likes," according to the team, and there are over 670,000 followers of the team's official Twitter feed.

In 2013, Ferrari finished third in the FIA Formula 1 Constructor's World Championship with 354 points to first place finisher Red Bull's 596 and second place Mercedes with 360.

Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso, however, finished second in the Drivers' Championship with 242 points to Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and his dominant 397.

F1 fans of all the teams will be looking to check out the new Formula 1 race cars when they are unveiled for the 2014 season, especially since major changes are required. Not least of these differences is the change from the V8 engine to a turbo V6.
