Formula-1 Champ may give NASCAR a try

Reigning F1 champion Lewis Hamilton may want to give America’s number one stock car racing sport a try.

The 24-year-old Briton told a British newspaper that he’s interested in racing other forms of the world’s premier motorsports. Reigning F1 champion Lewis Hamilton may want to give Americas number one stock car racing sport a try. (AP Photo/Gero Breloer)

Hamilton who currently drives for McLaren, which gets support from Mercedes-Benz, said he would first like to try the 24 Hours of LeMans.

"If Mercedes-Benz wants to go to Le Mans one day and take me, I'll do that," Hamilton said. "I'd love to try a MotoGP bike but not particularly race one. I would love to try one of Malcolm Wilson's rally cars -- and one day I might try NASCAR.”

One thing he did rule out was trying to race an Indianapolis 500.

"To do the Indy 500 you have to be going at it. It would be unreasonable for me to expect to get in the car and go and win it,” he said "You have to have a good season in that kind of thing so I don't have any particular desire to do that."

The last F1 Champ to race in NASCR was Jacques Villeneuve. His effort failed when sponsorship money dried up. He is however scheduled to enter the NASCAR Nationwide race in Montreal in August in a one-race deal.
