Jenson Button of McLaren came in second in FP1 with a best time of 1:27.891, but Hamilton's teammate, Nico Rosberg, brought back the Mercedes one-two dominance becoming familiar in the 2014 season by coming in second in FP2 with a time of 1m 25.973s. Hometown racer, Spain's Fernando Alonso of Ferrari, placed fourth in time in both sessions. Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull held a steady third place in both practice sessions on Friday.

Defending World Champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull drove only four laps in FP1 to place 20th in time. He was unable to go back out for FP2 due to electrical issues that arose in FP1, according to Formula 1.

While the teams work to make changes to their cars to better their positions in races, Mercedes appears to continue its domination of the new car formulae this season. Hamilton seeks to win the Spanish Grand Prix and a fourth consecutive win in a single season, both of which would be firsts for the 2008 champion.
