Dining at the White House is something most of us will ever dream about doing. John Moeller has done just that. To be more specific, Lancaster’s own Chef Moeller has served as the White House Chef for three Presidents. Tonight he kicks off the publication of his Dining at the White House – From the President’s Table to Yours here in Lancaster.
Chef Moeller joined the White House staff in 1992 as sous chef. He became the White House Chef in 2005. He served three Presidents, First Families, visiting Heads of States and numerous others during his tenure at the White House.
His newly released book provides an insider’s view into the experience of dining at the White House. In it Chef Moeller includes memorable moments cooking for three First Families: both Bushes and the Clintons. Over 100 recipes which Chef Moeller personally created are also included. He is known for his use of fresh seasonal ingredients. His cooking reveals his classical French training with an American touch. He includes helpful tips and notes for the home cook to use the French cooking techniques at home with ease.
“Tantalizing appetizers, scrumptious entrées, and desserts ‘to die for,’ are all important points of these amazing meals. Our mouths have watered but we will, most likely, never get to sample the offerings. Now, however, we have the next best thing, a book that delves into the mystical, and mouth--‐watering, world of White House meals, written by John Moeller, a chef who had the honor of cooking for three First Families. The book is a treasure--‐trove of behind--‐the--‐scene stories, not just of cooking, but of all things related to what it’s like living in the White House. From increased security measures, to celebrities showing up in the kitchen, this is a great source for enthusiasts of ‘everything White House’ as well as cooking fans,” reviews Ellen Feld, editor of Feathered Quill Book Reviews.
Join Chef Moeller for his book release party tonight – Tuesday, 24 September – at the Ware Center, 42 N. Prince Street. Tonight, he will do a cooking demonstration, tell a few White House stories as seen from the back of the house and sign his book. Free, advanced ticket reservations are required; however, space is limited. Tickets can be obtained via http://millersville.edu/muarts/upcoming-events.php.
The 400 page hardcover full color book is literally hot of the presses today and costs $35. It is published by American Lifestyle Publishing, an imprint of LifeReloaded Specialty Printing, LLC.
A 1979 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School and Willow Street CTC, Chef Moeller now runs State of Affairs Catering in Lancaster.
